Detailed description of Eagle Ridge Inn & Resort - General

Eagle Ridge Inn & Resort -General, is a Resort, 63 hole golf facility located in Galena, Illinois. Eagle Ridge Resort has three 18-hole courses and one 9-hole course for a total of 63 holes. The 18 hole courses are The General Golf Course, The North Course, and The South Course. The 9-hole course is The East Course.

The General Golf Course is Eagle Ridge Resort's most spectacular course. It first opened for play in May 1997. The par-72 course was designed by Roger Packard and Andy North.

The General's rolling landscape sets up wonderfully for a challenging champioship layout.

Hole #1 is a 407-yard downhill par 4 where accuracy overshadows distance all the way to the green. This is an exciting starting hole that takes you down the hill from the clubhouse into the serene valley of the front nine.

Hole #3 is a 180-yard par 3 to a green guarded by water to the right and long. The wind swirls in this valley, so choose your club carefully and favor the left side of the green.

Hole #9 displays an awe-inspiring tee shot to begin this 410-yard par 4. The tee shot must carry a deep wildflower valley in order to reach the fairway, while the silo at The General clubhouse provides a good target point. The roughs on this hole are angled toward the center to help keep slightly errant tee shots in play.

Hole #10 is a challenging 396-yard par 4 start to the back nine. The hole plays uphill, where the tee shot crosses water and the right side is guarded by a deep wooded ravine. The green is nestled in the trees at the top of the hill and requires an accurate approach to score well.

Hole #13 is a long 442-yard dogleg left par 4. The fairway is wide and has a generous landing area. The green is long and narrow, requiring an accurate approach shot. Short on the approach is better than long on this green.

Hole #14 is a 357-yard par 4 where the tee is elevated 180 feet above the fairway landing area. The view from this tee is spectacular!

Hole #18 is a 532-yard par 5 that presents a challenging tee shot across another deep ravine, where the silo at the clubhouse provides a good target point. Once a tee shot is in play, the second shot should favor the right side of this hole. The fairway is two-tiered and split by a strip of short rough, which presents a unique challenge. The green is undulated and protected by a front bunker.

Back tees: 6,820 yards, course rating 73.8, slope rating 137.

Men's tees: 6,434 yards, course rating 71.9, slope rating 130.

Forwaed tees: 6,006 yards, course rating 69.8, slope rating 125.

Ladies tees: 5,335 yards, course rating 66.7, slope rating 119.

I have a vacation home in the area and so this course is close by. It is difficult and a long hitter will not be helped here. This course is all about placement and not length of shot.
